When a violent crime occurs, the victim's body can be the scene of the crime. SANE of Butler County's staff are trained to collect, preserve, assess and document potential evidence and injuries in cases of reported sexual assault by completing a thorough Medical-Forensic examination. Our dedicated staff is available 24/7 to provide unbiased medical forensic examinations and detailed assessments upon request. A SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) may serve as an expert witness according to their findings during a forensic examination.

What is SANE?
Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner:
A Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) is a Registered Nurse who has completed advanced training in the specialty area of forensic medicine. We provide a pool of trained Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANEs) who are on-call 24/7 to provide services to hospitals throughout Butler County, Warren County, Montgomery County and Greene County in southwest Ohio.
SANE RN's are the Gold Standard for medico-legal forensic examinations in the area of sexual assault. Their detailed training and continuing education provide the highest standards of care.

- Forensic examination (collection of biological/trace samples, videocolposcopy/colposcopy)
- Suspect examinations for law enforcement
- Expert witness testimony during trial
- Appropriate referrals for each patient

Availability of Services
SANE of Butler County provides SANE nurses on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week who are required to respond to any of the listed hospitals who contract with our agency for services within 1 hour of request for services.
